Blimpy Burger And Ypsilanti (With A Touch Of Water Street Snark)

As many of you know, Ann Arbor’s iconic Blimpy Burger must move now that the University of Michigan purchased its building.

As you can imagine this set off a wave of activity around the area as people and politicians began plotting. The following is an exchange between City of Ypsilanti officials, Ypsilanti DDA members, and some local business owners.

The most important thing you should take away from this is, as absurd as this all sounds, it’s exactly what it sounds like when you say it.

How about seeing if an Ann Arbor icon wants to move to Ypsi. We have a University and like burgers.

“I’d like to be near the University, and I’d like to be near the sports complexes, but you know, only half of my customers are students,” he said. “Because it has been here for so long, there is a large number of former students and a large number of townies who grew up on Blimpy burgers…they’re Blimpy addicts.”

The burgers from Blimpy Burger are kind of greasy. What kind of tone would that set in our food community?

I think we should hold out for Miller’s Bar or Le Tub instead.
