The Ghosts Of Four Oh Eight

Over the course of the past century or so, my house has been home to a lot of people. Unfortunately I have not been able to determine whether or not anyone went nuts and killed their family like young Ruth McHenry did next door back in September of 1937. I am undeterred though. With any luck, I’ll discover a terrible tragedy that will make my neighbors green with envy.

DATES            OCCUPANT
1912 – 1914     Mary A. Crane
1920 – 1922     Charles Westfall
1926               Ryland H. Pierce
1929               Roy Gharst
1930               Bert L. Conrad
1931               Ralph D. Hanby
1933               Lawrence Arend
1934 – 1938     Frank Cox
1941 – 1977     Joseph P. Stanton
1978               VACANT
1979 – 1984     John P. Eckhardt
1985 – 1990     Steph. Strobbe
1991               VACANT
1992 – 2000     Thomas D. Shazer
2000 – 2005     Me

I tried calling Joseph Stanton at HU-29786, but the operator had no idea what I was talking about. It would have been rather odd talking to Mr. Stanton considering he’s dead. It was late, otherwise I would have tried to get in touch with that other John Edwards guy of “Crossing Over” fame.

Tonight at 7:30PM at the Ladies’ Literary Club at 218 North Washington, James Mann will be giving a little talk about researching your home. It should be a great opportunity to hang out with fellow preservation-minded Ypsilantians and enjoy some good refreshments. At least I hope there are refreshments.
