Into The Troposphere

Those crazy kids over at MoveOn.org are at it again. According to their website, the White House doesn’t want you to go see The Day After Tomorrow. At first I thought it might have something to do with the long-standing grudge that the President has with Jake Gyllenhaal, but MoveOn.org claims it’s the message about massive climate change due to the shifting Atlantic current caused by the melting polar ice caps. It goes on to say that thousands of MoveOn.org volunteers will be handing out flyers and answering people’s questions, and giving them a way to take action.
Well let me tell you that there was no one handing out literature at the 10:25PM showing on Saturday. What a disappointment that was. I had a lot of questions about just how super-cooled air from the troposphere could cause the fuel in the RAF‘s helicopters to freeze before they could make it to Balmoral Castle and save the Royal Family.
It’s not the White House that wants you to skip this one. It’s actually Stephen Hunter who is trying to save you nine bucks.
To be fair, I enjoyed the movie. It’s a summer move. Sure, it’s no Whale Rider, but it was fun. The science is loosely based on the work of Wallace Broecker of Columbia University.
Just to be on the safe side, I’m going to resurrect my quest to invent an air powered car before the French beat me to it.
