Even though John Kerry makes campaigning looking like nothing but fun with his constant softball games, I’ve learned that even going from house to house in a small place like the 3rd Ward in Ypsilanti is tough. I have the utmost respect for President Kerry even if his swing could use a lot of work.
I’d like to think that I’ve run a successful stealth campaign. I’ve poured over the list of registered voters and voters who actually vote in state primaries. I’ve gone door to door. I’ve tried to put my money where my mouth is and get involved. My central theme has been that the current City Council is not interested in your input. I’ve tried to listen to the voting public.
Unless there is some bizarre natural disaster, I am going to lose. My campaign staff is not large enough to cover both polling locations. The third precinct turned out as many voters in the 2002 Primaries as the other two precincts combined. Stranger things have happened (although I do not wish to associate myself with that anomaly).
The best thing that could happen is I get a fair number of votes and this sends a message to the current City Council. An even better outcome is that people become more involved in local politics.
