On The Pipe

Anyone who has ever met me realizes that I do not have any children. Should there ever be children in my future, it’s already been determined that they will be home-schooled. A recent news article out of Indiana has confirmed that they will never be allowed out of my sight. Andrea Wilkey of Indianapolis was arrested for helping her five-year old son smoke crack cocaine. Most people would find this appalling, but does anyone really expect a five-year old to know anything about crack pipes? Considering that Ms. Wilkey’s deke was homemade, it’s completely understandable. The thing that makes this so tragic is that Ms. Wilkey is a former child-care worker. Perhaps the most bizarre comment came from Marion County Prosecuter Carl Brizzi when he said, “Sharing a crack pipe with your five-year old is no way to bond.” Insert your own joke here.

The local blogging community is up in arms over a study conducted by the Michigan Department of Transportation on how to make Ypsilanti more walkable. Draw your own conclusions about their discussion. Even though it was the State’s money, it could have obviously been better spent elsewhere. The City would be wise to drop some coin on an advertising campaign to encourage EMU students and more importantly, Ypsilanti residents, to spend money downtown before it’s too late.
