Precision Drill Team

We were the belles of the ball. The cat’s pajamas.
This year’s Ypsilanti Heritage Festival parade saw an excellent showing of the East Side Neighborhood Association and their precision drill team. Even though we were given the unfortunate slot of being 71st, those who stuck around were treated to a magical display of timing and execution. (Eat your hearts out Flying Wallendas.) Next year’s showing promises to be even bigger as plans are already in the works to break out the giant cartoon character balloons. There was a brief run-in with parade officials over the rules, but all was forgiven after letting Lincoln and Jackson do the talking.
Other highlights included another James Mann production. This one was a tour of Highland Cemetery. As a change of pace, City Councilman Bill Nickels led the crowd through the magnificent place. Kudos to him for being forward-thinking enough to bring mosquito spray for the masses. Let’s hope being forward-thinking continues to be his strongsuit in other projects.
Finally, go adopt a greyhound. Now.
