Hello, Frontier League

The last of the Liberators’ stadium stuff comes from a blog devoted to the Frontier League. Don’t miss the interesting comment at the bottom of the entry.

The Ypsilanti (MI) Courier reports that there’s a group trying to get a stadium/development going on Water Street. Rumor has it that members of the ownership group would include individuals in the automotive industry. At least one blogger thinks the Frontier League is the best fit for a team in Ypsilanti. He’s probably right- the Frontier League is the only independent league with a presence in the region, and the city is within the territorial area of the Detroit Tigers, who have squelched minor league ball in the suburbs in past years.

You can read Mark Maynard’s blog and local residents’ comments, watch a video of the city’s former mayor’s opposition to a baseball stadium, and see the logo for the proposed Ypsilanti Liberators. (The B-24 Liberator bomber was built nearby during WWII.)

Ypsilanti is about 35 miles west of Detroit and 45 miles south of Waterford, another city that has recently been mentioned in connection with a possible Frontier League franchise. It’s 100 miles east of Kalamazoo and about 260 southeast of Traverse City.
