Perhaps due to the sudden overabundance of Segways in Ypsilanti, there’s talk about a Segway dealership opening up here. The person who owns the franchising license in the Traverse City area also owns the license for Washtenaw, western Wayne, and Livingston counties as well as the Toledo area. Rumor has it that a Depot Town location is being scouted due to the high price of retail space in Ann Arbor as well as the desire to be near parks, however, downtown buildings with concrete floors (required to do in-store demos) are being investigated as well.

Perhaps due to the sudden overabundance of night life in Historic Downtown Ypsilanti, there’s talk of an Irish Pub reportedly being on the horizon. Rumor has it the place could be open by the end of the year (provided the County doesn’t hold up HVAC installation for ten months). While the establishment won’t be importing an actual pub from Ireland, word is the chef will be and he’ll delight the community with such traditional dishes as Irish lamb stew, stuffed marrow squash, boiled boxty, and tasty crubeens.

Perhaps due to the sudden overabundance of microbreweries in Ypsilanti, there’s talk of another one opening in Depot Town. Rumor has it that this yet unnamed venture could come to occupy some underutilized store front space in the area. When I was in my early twenties, I tried convincing my mom to start brewing beer, but for whatever reason, she didn’t pay much attention to me. For the sake of beer drinkers everyone, let’s hope these pleas don’t go unheard.

Finally, perhaps due to the sudden overabundance of news coverage (including an upcoming feature from the Ypsilanti Courier) for a Water Street baseball stadium, there’s talk the project has been jinxed and is in jeopardy. Rumor has it that some unpleasant words were exchanged and an unwanted feeling was created. Regardless, I expect to be throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day 2011 even if no one is there.
