Ypsi City V Ypsi Twp: A Steel Cage Battle To The Death

Comments (1) 8:45 AM posted by admin |

Tonight, for one night only, the Ypsilanti City Council and the Ypsilanti Township Board will have a joint meeting at 7PM at the Ypsilanti Township Civic Center, located at 7200 South Huron River Drive for your convenience.

On the agenda for discussion is border road improvements (which means Mansfield), the fire department, recreation opportunities, and the SPARK East incubator (where we hope to leverage our decision to give money to the project into getting the Twp to do the same).

These types of public meetings are awkward because no one can really say what they think at the risk of offending the entire region. It’s a step in the right direction because now the newspapers can talk about this meeting and how important it is, but the reality is Council members have been meeting with Trustees for years trying to work on partnerships.

Regardless, I’d encourage everyone to come out and participate. Ypsilanti Township has no time limit on audience participation.

Why is the battle between the township and the city? Why doesn’t Ypsi City forge partnerships with Ann Arbor? Ann Arbor has a lot more money and they have a view of local government far more similar to Ypsi City than township officials. The township and the city have very little in common.
