In the wake of a failing economy and uncertainty in Iraq, the President announced his support of a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriages. Speaking for the Roosevelt Room at the White House Bush denounced “some activist judges and local officials” attempting to “redefine marriage.” He continued by saying, “If we are to prevent the meaning of marriage from being changed forever, our nation must enact a constitutional amendment to protect marriage in America.” White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan did not elaborate on how this proposed amendment would create jobs.
